There’s no doubt that there are plenty of suitors to join the Southeastern Conference, which boasts dozens of national titles in football and many other sports. Tennessee sports betting interest could shift yet again even as Texas and Oklahoma are just now joining the SEC.
Two of those possible suitors are college football powerhouse programs Clemson and Florida State. Both schools are in the midst of a multiparty litigation frenzy with their current conference, the ACC, over that league’s television deal with ESPN.
So BetTennessee.com broke down some hypothetical odds, covering which programs might be next in line to join the SEC.

While the lawsuit that FSU and Clemson filed against the ACC (and the ACC’s countersuit against the two schools) moves through the legal system, it’s worth wondering which programs the SEC will tab whenever league commissioner Greg Sankey opts for expansion next.
Who Joins SEC Next?
Sankey made waves on July 15 when he told reporters about expansion: “We’re focused on our 16,” which implies that the SEC has no plans on adding anyone else (for now, at least).
Should Sankey (or their TV partners) change their mind, it’s hard to believe that the SEC will ignore Clemson and FSU, especially given their football prowess. In the meantime, check out our Tennessee college football betting guide at BetTenneseee.com.
Why Clemson, FSU Top Our List
The Clemson Tigers have won three national titles, including two College Football Playoff crowns in 2016 and 2018. The Florida State Seminoles also have three national titles to their name, most recently in 2013.
That’s why we still have the Tigers and Seminoles at +450 to be the next team (or teams) added to the SEC. Fellow ACC schools North Carolina (+700), Virginia and Virginia Tech (+1000 each) come next – any departure of the top two schools would likely cause an exodus of ACC members elsewhere.
BetMGM Tennessee Sportsbook has FSU as the +275 favorite to win the ACC in football this season, followed by Clemson at +350, as of July 17.
Longshots to be the next names tabbed by Sankey include Oklahoma State and Duke at +1500 apiece, while Memphis and TCU are included at +1750 and “the field” of all others combined clocks in at +900.
We likely won’t know more about any possible SEC expansion plans until the legal process wraps up in the various courthouses of the South. But we do know that Sankey is among the most aggressive movers in today’s NCAA world. One phone call could set off the next round of seismic conference realignment in college sports.
