An emerging young NHL defenseman is returning to the Music City this fall, and customers at Tennessee sportsbooks might well take note that it was part of a busy day for the state’s NHL team.

The Nashville Predators announced on Monday, July 1, the first day of the free-agency window, that they had retained 217-game veteran Alexandre Carrier.

His first foray into free agency ended promptly with a new three-year deal with Nashville, worth $11.25 million over the course of the contract.

More About Alexandre Carrier

Carrier notched 20 points and a plus-7 rating with a point share total of 3.8 in 73 games for the Predators last season. That brought his career totals to 62 points and a plus-39 rating with a 13.5 point share figure.

Now, the 2020 All-Rookie team member will stay in Nashville after signing a contract averaging $3.75 million per year for the 27-year-old blue-liner.

2024-25 Stanley Cup Odds

At Caesars Sportsbook Tennessee, the Predators have +1800 odds to win their first Stanley Cup in the 2024-25 season. Those are strong odds for a team that missed the playoffs this season.

Nashville has probably made the biggest splash in the NHL at the start of the free agency window, acquiring Vegas Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault and veteran Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos, a two-time league leader in goals. The Predators have also retained goalie Juuse Saros with an eight-year, $61.92 million contract.

Where Did Carrier Sign?

Before Nashville officially re-signed Carrier, we had the Edmonton Oilers as favorites to acquire Carrier, with +700 odds. These odds had not been offered at Tennessee sportsbook apps, only at BetTennessee.com. The Pittsburgh Penguins (+750) Philadelphia Flyers (+850) and Dallas Stars (+850) were close behind.

Carrier is a player with plenty of good hockey left in his skates, as the 2022 All-Rookie Team member looks to get back to the level of play that allowed him to earn a plus-26 rating with the Predators two seasons ago.

He will make more than his previous deal, as he made $2.5 million in 2023-24. That gives the Canadian blue-liner greater financial security entering his fourth full season in the NHL.
