Few starting pitchers in todayâs MLB landscape had the opportunity to shape the leagueâs trade market that veteran southpaw Garrett Crochet did, with the Tennessee Volunteers alum posting 4.1 WAR across 146 innings with the woebegone White Sox in 2024.
Crochet was slated to hit his third and final year of arbitration in 2026 before becoming an unrestricted free agent for the first time in 2027, which meant Chicago had great impetus to deal the All-Star starter this offseason.
For now, the 26-year-old is slated to make $2.9 million in 2025, though the team at Spotrac.com estimates his market value to be $21.8 million per year (based on a six-year, $130.7 million valuation), meaning heâs going to get paid big bucks sooner rather than later.
At BetTennessee.com, we developed exclusive odds to see where the Volunteer alum - and newly named AL Comeback Player of the Year - would be traded to before his eventual deal to the Boston Red Sox in mid-December.
Team | Odds | Percent Chance |
New York Yankees | +450 | 18.2% |
New York Mets | +500 | 16.7% |
Cincinnati Reds | +550 | 15.4% |
Milwaukee Brewers | +800 | 11.1% |
Philadelphia Phillies | +1800 | 5.3% |
Boston Red Sox | +2050 | 4.7% |
The Field/Stay With White Sox | +250 | 28.6% |

While the White Sox came in with the best odds of keeping Crochet through 2025 (+250) given his lack of free agent status through 2026, there were pretty good odds that the starter thatâs entering his sixth MLB season would find himself in a new uniform come Opening Day, with the New York Yankees (+450), New York Mets (+500) and Cincinnati Reds (+550) initially leading the way to land him.
Throw in the Milwaukee Brewers at +800 and you had the upper end of the Crochet chase, while the Philadelphia Phillies (+1800) are longshots across Tennessee sports betting to land him at +1800.
Could the Yankees really have landed Crochet after handing fellow lefty Max Fried an eight-year deal in mid-December? We didn't want to count out the Bronx Bombers, who are scrambling to add talent in the wake of Juan Soto signing with the Mets. In the end though, it was their longtime AL East rivals in the Red Sox who successfully swung a deal for Crochet.
For now, the Sox will hope Crochet can build on his first All-Star campaign in the Windy City, with the former Vols starter striking out 209 batters and posting an ERA+ of 115 in his first season in the White Soxâs starting rotation during the South Siderâs miserable 2024 campaign.
