It’s been a two-year stretch to forget at Tennessee sportsbooks for fans of the Tennessee Titans across, who have gone 13-21 (.382) with zero playoff berths between 2022 and 2023, ultimately spelling the end of the Mike Vrabel era in Nashville.
First-year head coach Brian Callahan is tasked with getting the Titans back to respectability, with a host of recent draftees and free agent acquisitions hopefully serving as the lynchpin behind a franchise-wide renaissance in the Music City.
Sadly, for Titans fans, the franchise enters the new league year with a win total over/under of 6.5 to go with +13000 Super Bowl odds, speaking to the tall task that awaits Callahan and company in 2024.
Utilizing DraftKings Tennessee’s current win total for the 2024 NFL season, the Titans were found to be set at 6.5 wins (+115 over). Utilizing SportsReference.com, we found all teams with a 6.5-win total line in the last 10 NFL seasons and how they performed.
Situation | Number of Teams | Percentage* |
Under 6.5 Wins | 10 of 27 | 37.0% |
Over 6.5 Wins | 17 of 27 | 63.0% |
Make NFL Playoffs | 8 of 27 | 29.6% |
Make Divisional Round | 5 of 27 | 18.5% |
Make Conference Championship | 2 of 27 | 7.4% |
Make Super Bowl | 1 of 27 | 3.7% |
Win Super Bowl | 0 of 27 | 0.0% |
2023 Texans | Lost in Divisional |
2023 Bucs | Lost in Divisional |
2022 Jags | Lost in Divisional |
2021 Bengals | Lost in Super Bowl |
2017 Jags | Lost in Conference Champ |
Among the 27 teams that have entered the year with win total over/under totals of 6.5, 10 fell short of that total (37%), while 17 others won seven or more contests to fly in the face of oddsmakers across America.
Eight of the 27 teams (29.6%) went on to reach the postseason, while five of them (18.5%) made the NFL’s Divisional Round, speaking to the tall task that is making a playoff run in the NFL after starting on such shaky ground on Tennessee betting apps.
A total of two NFL teams out of the 27 that started the season with a 6.5-win total over/under (7.4%) reached the NFL’s Conference Championship round, while the 2021 Cincinnati Bengals were the lone squad that reached the Super Bowl in a season where they had a preseason win total of 6.5.
Whether Tennessee can join any of those success stories in 2024 remains to be seen, though we’ll know more about whether Callahan has a legitimate shot of resurrecting the franchise when the regular season kicks off between the Titans and Chicago Bears in the Windy City on Sept. 8.
