What States Produce The Highest Paid NFL QBs?

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

While only one of the 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL today originally hails from the Volunteer State, that’s not to say that Tennessee isn’t a breeding ground for top-notch gunslingers.

That quarterback (Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars) joins a long lineage of signal callers born in Tennessee that includes NFL stalwarts like Chad Pennington (17,823 passing yards between 2000 and 2010), Kelly Holcomb (5,916 yards between 1997 and 2007) and C.J. Beathard (3,886 yards between 2017 and 2023).

Tennessee Tops List of QB States

Thanks to Lawrence’s five-year, $275 million contract extension signed with the Jaguars in June, Tennessee can lay claim to that $55 million per year aggregate in salary.

That figure alone was enough to push Tennessee atop the list (alongside Ohio) when it came to national QB salary averages, beating out states like Hawaii ($53.1 million), Oregon ($52.5 million), and Illinois ($45 million).

Rounding out the list of the top states when it came to NFL quarterback salary were locales like Texas ($43.86 million), Louisiana ($40 million), California ($31.81 million), Florida ($31.38 million) and North Carolina ($24.58 million).

Still, when it comes to QB salary, few states can keep up with Tennessee, thanks to the on-field exploits of former No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence in North Florida.
