The Memphis Tigers are coming off one of the program’s most exciting wins in recent program history, with the American Athletic Conference program pulling off a 20-12 road win over Florida State to move to 3-0 for the season.
The Tigers’ eight-point win over their former head coach (Mike Norvell) in Memphis vs. FSU sets the stage for the opening week of AAC play, with Memphis heading to Annapolis to play a 2-0 Navy squad at 2:30 p.m. Central time Saturday.
As of now, Memphis is listed as a 9.5-point road favorite over the Midshipmen on ESPN BET Tennessee, with a -360 moneyline on the contest for the Tigers, compared with +290 for Navy.
All fall, BetTennessee.com will update hypothetical odds on where the Tigers will play this bowl season, with this week’s installment including stops in Myrtle Beach, Annapolis, Birmingham, Boston and wherever the CFP is played.

On the heels of Memphis’ eight-point road win over the Seminoles, it looks like the Tigers’ best bowl game odds are for them to play in the Myrtle Beach Bowl against another Group of Five opponent, which would be a first for the program.
Throw in Annapolis’ Military Bowl at +250, the Birmingham Bowl at +600, and a possible CFP berth or a first-ever trip to Boston’s Wasabi Fenway Bowl (+1000 each), and you have the full range of bowl game possibilities for the Tigers in 2024.
For now, Memphis is tasked with moving to 4-0 for the first time since 2019 when the Tigers play the Midshipmen in Annapolis, setting the stage for what should be an action-packed AAC slate this fall.
Last fall, the Tigers ranked sixth nationally in points per game (39.4), with quarterback Seth Henigan throwing for 3,883 yards and 32 touchdowns to nine interceptions in 13 games.
In 2023, running back Blake Watson had 1,152 rushing yards and 17 total touchdowns (14 on the ground) and wide receiver Roc Taylor had 1,083 receiving yards and four scores. If the Tigers reproduce that level of offense, they should contend for the AAC title.

Entering fall camp, Memphis’ best bowl game odds (exclusively at BetTennessee.com) are for Boston’s Wasabi Fenway Bowl, at +200 odds. The Tigers have never played in that one. The Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland, is second on our board at +250; Memphis has also never played in Maryland’s capital city during bowl season.
Next us is another destination Memphis has never visited in the postseason, the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas (though they have played bowl games in Dallas and Arlington). That game has +600 odds of landing the Tigers.
Year | Bowl | Result |
2023 | Liberty Bowl | Win, 36-26 against Iowa State |
2022 | First Responder Bowl | Win, 38-10 against Utah State |
2021 | No Bowl Game |

2019 | Cotton Bowl | Loss, 53-39 against Penn State |
Since 2019, Memphis has played four bowl games, missing out during the 2021 season as the Tigers finished 6-6 and weren’t picked. Silverfield and company have made appearances in Memphis, metro Dallas (twice) and Montgomery in the last half-decade.
During that four-game stretch, Memphis has gone 3-1, with a 36-25 Liberty Bowl victory over Iowa State in 2023. That came on the heels of a 38-10 rout over Utah State at the 2022 First Responder Bowl.
Two years prior, Memphis bested Florida Atlantic, 25-10, in the Montgomery Bowl. The program’s lone postseason loss in the past five years came at the 2019 Cotton Bowl, when they ran out of steam against Penn State in a 53-39 defeat in the heart of Texas.
