10 Worst Songs To Play At A Wedding

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Few elements of American society can unite a wide swath of people quite like an outdoor wedding, with friends and family coming from all over to rejoice in the good tidings of loved ones.

Those good vibes can quickly go off the rails with a rogue clanger of a song, however, turning wedding goers' tidings from joy to pain in an instant, which is why it’s important to always vet your special day’s DJ.

As couples prepare their song preferences for their band or DJ, most make a “Do No Play,” list full of genres and songs they don’t, under any circumstances, want playing during their wedding. To see what some of the most commonly banned songs are, BetTennessee.com paused Tennessee sports betting and asked Reddit users in r/weddingplanning to see what songs top the list of the worst songs to play at a wedding, according to current and past couples.

What’s the Worst Wedding Song?

According to Reddit, the worst song you can ever play at your wedding is 2006’s “Cupid Shuffle” by the man himself, Cupid, which peaked at No. 66 on the Billboard 100 and No. 21 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart after its release nearly two decades ago.

Playing that song at your wedding is a great way to ensure that nobody will be clapping their hands, as the 2006 ditty got 448 upvotes to beat out Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” (372 upvotes), Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” (238 upvotes) and “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion (185 upvotes) as the worst wedding song.

Throw in Werner Thomas and Terry Rendell’s “Der Ententanz (Chicken Dance)” (136 upvotes), the Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” (122 upvotes), “Y.M.C.A” by the Village People (116 upvotes), Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” (107 upvotes), “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond (104 upvotes) and John Legend’s “All Of Me” (97 upvotes) and you have the full list for 2024.

A word of advice to those of you who are about to get hitched: Read this list carefully and think about what you want to subject your closest friends and family to, audio-wise, as the aforementioned tracks are bound to kill the vibe on your special day, which is never a solid game plan.
