Is Tennessee Among The Worst States For Dating?

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Sweaty palms, fluttering heartbeat, an overwhelming fear of rejection — yup, that’s the dating life for you. But as if all the usual anxieties that surround dating weren’t enough, where you live can also have a major impact on how difficult dating can be for single folks. And it just so happens that, Tennessee is one of the worst states in the country for prospective daters. In order to quantify the relative impact of location on an individual’s dating experience, BetTennessee.com decided to cook up something we’re calling the “Dating Index.”

The “Dating Index” was created using data from Google Trends, Statista.com, and Forbes Business. The weighted ranking system took the percentage of single-person households in each state from Statista. Google Trends was utilized to find the average search volumes by state for the following inquiries: “date ideas,” “first date activities near me,” and “florists near me.” Meanwhile, we used Forbes Business to find the average annual income for a single person in each state.

Not Good For Tennessee, But Could Be Worse

It’s not the best news for singles in Tennessee. Per our “Dating Index,” the state ranks all the way down at 36th. Nevertheless, if you are indeed successful in arranging a date, you’ll have no shortage of great spots to check out together. Considering all the incredible music venues to check out in Music City, date night in Nashville will be a surefire hootenanny. But if you’re looking for something a little more low-key, consider a picnic in Centennial Park, which features a full-scale replica of The Parthenon. If things go well, maybe you can visit the real thing in Athens, Greece on your honeymoon.

From blues clubs on Beale Street to riverboat dinners on the Mississippi, there are plenty of great first-date spots in Memphis to choose from. If your date is an animal lover, take them to the Memphis Zoo. Regardless of where you live in Tennessee, another option is to visit the burgeoning wine scene across the state. There are now over 69 wineries in Tennessee, spread across all corners of the state.

Of course, you could also bring your date to a professional sports game. If you do, maybe consider placing a wager on the match using one of the best Tennessee sportsbooks. Who knows, you might get lucky in more ways than one.
