Christmas season is in full swing, and that means families are shopping for the perfect tree, rounding up last-second gifts and firing up some traditional holiday recipes. The nice thing about all those tasks is that they can be done while enjoying the cheer that is Christmas music, with legends from Bing Crosby to recent stars like Taylor Swift all lending their talents to the comfort genre over the course of their careers.
At BetTennessee.com, we cover Tennessee sports betting day in, day out. But we love the holiday season as much as anyone else, and our friends at Google Trends often have data that lends itself to the occasional research item.
So without further ado, we were curious about locals' favorite Christmas songs. Using Google Trends, we found the top five most popular Christmas songs based on search interest scores on December 17, 2024.
Rank | Song | Search Interest Score |
1 | “Santa Baby” | 10 |
2 | “Silent Night” | 9 |
3 | “Jingle Bell Rock” | 8 |
T-4 | “All I Want For Christmas Is You” | 5 |
T-4 | “Last Christmas" | 5 |
In Tennessee, a classic took the the top spot this year, with "Santa Baby" out-pacing "Silent Night," "Jingle Bell Rock," "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Last Christmas."
Written in 1953 by Joan Javits and Philip Springer, "Santa Baby" has stood the test of time with Tennessee residents for more than 70 years now. How has it hung on? The song - first performed by American singer Eartha Kitt with Henri René and His Orchestra - has been covered by everyone from Madonna to Swift, with many various versions enjoying commercial success throughout different time periods.
Also, the song has had a strong cultural presence in TV and film, being featured in the Oscar-winning "Driving Miss Daisy" back in 1989. On HBO in the early 2000s, "The Sopranos" released a Christmas-set episode in which Bobby Baccala dresses up as the big man, with "Santa Baby" playing in the background. Finally, who could forget Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell's duet in "Elf," which just so happens to be among Tennessee's favorite Christmas movies.
Like we said, our friends at Google Trends are onto something! We hope you enjoy the holiday season, and check back throughout the holiday break for TN sportsbook promos as you listen to your preferred Christmas soundtrack.
