Can Sampson Overtake Ashton Jeanty?

Sampson, a junior from Baton Rouge, La., has been nothing short of outstanding this season. He leads the SEC with 1,230 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns on the ground this season.

Above all else, heā€™s been consistent. Only once in 10 games has he failed to garner 100 yards or more in a game, and in that one against Oklahoma, he piled up 92. Heā€™s also scored in each game for the Volunteers, who very much remain in contention for a College Football Playoff berth even after their loss at Georgia last weekend. FanDuel Tennessee Sportsbook gives the Vols -160 odds to make the final 12.

Thereā€™s only one problem. Heā€™s not Ashton Jeanty. The Boise State back leads the nation with 1,893 rushing yards, 471 more than North Carolinaā€™s Omarion Hampton who sits in second place. Sampson is sixth nationally. Jeanty also leads all of FBS with 26 touchdowns, five more than Sampson, who is tied with Army quarterback Bryson Daily for second.

Thatā€™s why Jeanty is a solid favorite to win the award.

Tennesseeā€™s sports betting rules preclude sportsbooks from offering college player prop bets, which means you wonā€™t be able to wager on the number of yards or scores Sampson may rack up when Tennessee hosts UTEP on Saturday.

However, you still can bet on college games, and the Vols are currently a 41.5-point favorite against the Miners at BetMGM Tennessee Sportsbook.

In addition, odds on awards such as the Heisman Trophy will be available in the state. Check with your favorite licensed sportsbook to see which awards they will offer and when they will post those odds.
