When you think of the Volunteer State, the image of the babbling brooks of the Great Smokies and the majestic waters of the Tennessee and Mississippi rivers might come to mind.
That untamed natural beauty from the stateās Appalachian eastern flank west towards the Mississippi River Valley likely is the main reason why the home of Tennessee sports betting ranks among the best states for water quality.
August is National Water Quality Month. At BetTennessee.com, we wanted to see which states have the cleanest rivers and streams for both recreation and drinking water. Using data from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, we ranked the top 10 states with the cleanest water for swimming and drinking.

Across America, Tennesseeās water quality score of 54 ranks 10th overall. Thatās immediately behind New Hampshire, which had a score of 55, thanks in large part to a bounty of bucolic streams and rivers.
Nationally, the leaders in water quality were Arkansas, which finished with a score of 71, followed by Arizona (70), Idaho and New Mexico (69 each). Throw in New York at 65, Pennsylvania at 61, Alabama at 58, Nevada at 56 and New Hampshireās total of 55 and you have the full rundown of the states with better water quality scores than Tennesseeās total of 54.
For Volunteer State residents, it seems the crystal clear waters of the many H2O sources within Tennesseeās boundaries offer a bounty for all.
